Abraham van Strij was clearly inspired by Johannes Vermeer’s famous The Little Street, now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum.

He borrowed not only the composition, but also the glimpse to the left from Vermeer. Van Strij turned it into a winter scene, set in clear, bright sunlight. Remarkably, the house shown in this street actually existed, as drawings in the Regional Archive of Dordrecht confirm.
